Cape girls’ tennis readies for 2023 season

March 27, 2023

The Cape girls’ tennis team opens up the season with a new look after graduating four seniors after last season. The team looks to improve on its 8-2 finish in 2022. To do so, the Vikings hope to gain victories over perennial powerhouses Caesar Rodney and Dover, which handed them their only losses last season.

Playing first singles will be Rachel Ramjattansingh. Second singles will be Noa Aboutboul, who will also be the team captain. Third singles will be Morgan Green. First doubles will be the team of Katie Costello and Sia Patel, while the second doubles team will be filled by Kyli Doyon-Baridon and Mina Swier.

The coaching staff of Laurie Carter and Dave Shook have more than 55 years of experience. Carter has 15 years at the high-school level, while Shook coached 25 years at Lehigh University and 15 at the high-school level.

“Ramajensingh is playing at a very high level and will be a contender for a top three position in the league at No. 1 singles,“ Shook said. “Aboutboul is considered one of the toughest outs in the league, and with senior Morgan Green anchoring the singles lineup with her big game, we are very excited about this season.”

“The doubles will be anchored by two-time medal winner junior Sia Patel playing with Kathryn Costello, after playing with her sister Madison in last year’s lineup,” Carter said. “Newcomers earning spots in the Cape starting lineup are senior Mina Swier and junior Kyli Doyon-Baridon, who will hold down the second doubles position.”

New to the team are exhibition players senior Josie Pyryt and freshman Mya DiSabatino, who are expected to contribute in their first year of varsity tennis.

The team travels to Seaford on Wednesday, March 29.
