Cape girls’ basketball scrimmages St. Thomas More

Vikings open the season Nov. 30 at home versus Smyrna

The Cape girls’ basketball team traveled to Camden on Nov. 27 to face St. Thomas More in their final preseason scrimmage.

“The girls are really trying to do the right things,” said Cape’s new coach Pat Woods. “We were moving the ball well and shooting well tonight. Our transition and pace were better than last Friday [at Sanford]. We have a lot of girls that can play, giving us a lot of options. I tell them to have fun and let it fly.”

Cape’s returning players this season are Dania Cannon, Ryleigh Elliott, Niyashja Mosley, Alexis Watkins and Destiny Kusen. Hoping to make an impact are Jhayden Holloman, Lauryn Head, Elizabeth Rishko, Kelly Bragg, Mackenzie Vitolo, Morgan Mahoney, Carlin Quinn, La'keyisha Saintervil, Mehkia Applewhite, Taonshaye Tader and junior transfer Abigail Hearn.

“I am looking forward to us improving and playing a complete game, executing on every play on both sides,” said Woods. “When we make the extra pass, help each other on defense, and play with speed and enthusiasm, we are pretty good. I really enjoy working with everyone in the program, from staff to players to managers to middle school coaches. Seems like we are all united in our goals.”

The Vikings open the regular season Friday, Nov. 30, at home against Smyrna.
