The 2019 edition of the Cape girls’ lacrosse team started its preseason scrimmages with a three-team play day March 9 at Champions Stadium. Cape welcomed Parkside High School from Salisbury, Md., and West Potomac High of Virginia.

The Rams of Parkside took on West Potomac in the first game. Cape played Parkside in the second game, and remained on the turf to take on West Potomac in the third matchup. Each game included two 20-minute halves with a five-minute halftime break.

“Both teams were competitive scrimmages,” said Cape head coach Lindsey Underwood. “We saw lots of positive plays and are beginning to come together as a team after losing 10 seniors last year. Our defense was moving well and communicating, which were two of the goals we gave the girls. Our attack is still getting in a rhythm, and [players] are beginning to see the open girl and create from all over the field.”

“I think the games went really well today,” said Cape junior midfielder Anna Stancofski. “We looked good, especially for it being our first time playing together as a team.”

The Lady Vikings will host an eight-team play day Saturday, March 16. Play begins a 9 a.m.
