Ava Brown sets up a play from the left-side line.The Cape girls' soccer team ended its home season May 11, with a 4-0 win over Dover. It was the fifth shutout of the season.
The Vikings scored three goals in the first half and finished the game off with one in the second.
Ashlynn Panyko scored two goals in the game. Ava Brown and Jaidyn Jones tallied one each. Brown was credited with two assists.
"It was a great team win on Senior Night," said coach Patrick Kilby. "It was a wonderful way to send the seniors off."
The Vikings continued just two nights later with a 1-0 victory over Lake Forest.
Panyko scored the game's lone goal at the 13-minute mark off a pass from Brown.
The Vikings outshot the Spartans 9-6 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalie Brynne Fox stopped six shots to earn her sixth clean slate.
"We really persevered through the final third of our season after facing some tough losses early on," said Brown. "I’m really proud of our team for staying resilient and finishing strong."
"It was nice to end the season with a competitive win," said Kilby. "It's a great feeling."
The Vikings finish at 6-6-3.
Panyko and Brown were a tag-team scoring machine, as each had 11 goals to lead the team. Brown also led the team in assists with nine.
Junior keeper Brynne Fox had 56 saves.
