Cape girls’ basketball hosts play day

Woods pleased with Vikings’ performance
November 25, 2021

The Lady Vikings hosted a four-team play day Nov. 20 at the Cape gymnasium. The teams each played two games with four 10-minute quarters and a running clock. The clock was stopped in the last minute of each game. Teams participating in the competition were Cape, Woodbridge, Tatnall and Stephen Decatur.

“We made a lot of progress as a result of the day,” said Cape head coach Pat Woods. “We were forced to overcome some adversity. We cleaned up our defensive principles. We were also able to work on zone offense, which we had only done for 10 minutes all season prior to that first game. We installed three new offensive concepts and a new defensive concept. There was some learning on the fly, but that’s what scrimmages are for. All in all, I thought it was good. We are happy to be playing again.”

The Vikings will open Henlopen Conference play Friday, Dec. 3, when they host Sussex Central.
