Cape Henlopen School Board elects new president

Experienced educator Alison J. Myers to lead board
August 6, 2018

Alison Myers was elected Cape Henlopen school board president at the July 26 board meeting.

Cape's school board members serve five-year terms. In July, the board elects a president and vice-president. Jessica Tyndall was elected to a second one-year term as vice-president.

As she enters her term's fifth year, Myers, 41, said she now has the time and experience needed to lead. She replaces former President Andy Lewis.   "I just finished my doctorate in educational leadership in May," she said. "I wanted the opportunity to be president, so I talked with Andy about it. He nominated me for the position."

Myers wants to increase communications between school board members and parents. "I want them to know what we're doing and why," she said. "The work we're doing as a board supports the achievements of our district."

Myers holds an at-large seat, and plans to run for another five-year term. A former special education teacher, Myers also holds a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in education, all from the University of Delaware.

She and husband Rob live in Lewes and have five children: Bella, a Cape High 10th-grader; Aubrie, a Beacon Middle seventh-grader; Rylie and Robbie, fourth- and first-graders at Shields Elementary and Bryn, a toddler.
