Cape Henlopen schools ring in 2018-19 school year

September 4, 2018

When school bells ring Tuesday, Sept. 4, about 5,600 Cape Henlopen students will hang up backpacks and take seats at one of the district’s nine schools.

Cape Assistant Superintendent Jenny Nauman said this is an increase from last year’s 5,451 student count taken Sept. 30, 2017.

“Growth has happened across the district, but the Sussex Consortium has seen the greatest amount of growth overall,” she said. “Love Creek Elementary is the largest elementary school at this time.”

Nauman said the Consortium has 300 registered students, and Love Creek has about 625 students. Shields Elementary has about 550 students, Rehoboth Elementary about 475 students, and H.O. Brittingham and Milton Elementaries have about 425 students each.

Beacon Middle School has 675 students, Mariner Middle School has 615, and Cape High has 1,515.

“Our principals and teachers are so excited to welcome back students and families,” Nauman said.
