Cape High drama students to present ‘Eurydice’ Nov. 15-17

November 4, 2019

The Cape Henlopen High School theatre group will present Sarah Ruhl’s “Eurydice” from Friday to Saturday, Nov. 15 to 17.

In this 2003 adaptation of a Greek myth, Ruhl reimagines the story of Orpheus from the perspective of Eurydice, his wife.

Viewers tumble with Eurydice like Alice in Wonderland, down into an eerie underworld where she is reunited with her father. Stripped of her memories and her ability to understand humans, Euridice must relearn the the human language from her father.

Meanwhile, her self-absorbed husband Orpheus is attempting to use his power of music to bring her back.

“Sarah Ruhl’s rewrite of this classic Greek myth provides a fresh, and modern take on love, loss and memories,” said Sadie Andros, theatre teacher at Cape Henlopen High School. “I’m looking forward to watching our theatre students immerse themselves in their characters, and I know they are looking forward to sharing their talents with families and the community in November.”

Performances begin at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m., Sunday. Following the performance of “Eurydice,” several theatre students will present a student-directed one-act play called “Antigone Now.”

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Student tickets are $5 and adult tickets are $10. Theatre doors will open about 30 minutes before the show starts.
