Cape junior Maddie Betts receives President’s Volunteer Service Award
Cape Henlopen High School junior Maddie Betts was recently honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.
Granted by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program, the citation recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of time to serve their communities and their country.
Cape Principal Nikki Miller nominated Betts for national honors in recognition of her volunteer service.
“Maddie is involved in a number of community service organizations,” said Miller. “She participates in the Delaware Community Foundation Youth Philanthropy Board of Sussex County; volunteers at Shields Elementary School and Beacon Middle School helping with their musical theater productions; she is a volunteer at Bethel UMC Vacation Bible School and at the Cape Henlopen State Park Fantasy Trail. She tutors her peers in math and chemistry, is a Delaware Electric Co-op Youth Tour delegate and is also a Delaware Electric Co-op Youth Leadership Council Conference representative, and these are just her extracurricular activities.”
“Maddie participates in a number of school activities and clubs as well, and is currently fourth in her class. She makes all of us at Cape Henlopen School District very proud,” said Miller.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, recognizes middle and high school students across America for outstanding volunteer service.
“Across the United States, young volunteers are doing remarkable things to contribute to the well-being of the people and communities around them,” said Charles Lowry, Prudential CEO. “Prudential is honored to celebrate the contributions of these students, and we hope their stories inspire others to volunteer, too.”
