Cape’s David Adili-Khams checks Central keeper Shane McCray.The Cape boys’ lacrosse team scored 21 goals and allowed none in a dominating win at Sussex Central March 28 in Georgetown.
The Central team was outmanned by the team ranked 18th in the nation, but they never gave up with their effort.
The Vikings jumped to a 15-0 first-quarter lead and went into the halftime at 17-0. The second half started with the Vikings getting the running clock and finishing the game 21-0.
Cape senior Grant Conway scored six goals. Senior Ryan Morgan added three. Pierce Conway and Landon Cieniewicz cranked two. Braddock Smith, Liam Crotty, AJ Grapski, Carter Nemcic, Mathew Popovich, Patrick Healy, David Adilin and Thomas Draper also hit the twine for a goal.
Popovich, Brenner Short and Grant Conway were credited with two assists, while Nemcic, Grapski and Braddock Smith each had one.
Junior goalie Patrick Little made three saves to preserve the shutout.
“The face-off unit asserted clear dominance in the second quarter,” said Little. “They consistently secured possession and enabled the offense to take control of the game.”
“Central played hard and aggressive,” said Cape coach Geoff Shupard. “I was happy with the speed we played with, and the boys did a good job of managing the game.”
Cape will play Bullis School of Maryland Tuesday, March 31, before hosting Radnor of Pennsylvania, the No. 1-ranked public school in the nation, Thursday, April 2.
