The squad opened the tournament at Nanticoke Little League June 25, playing against the hosts, using four runs in the fourth inning, three runs in the fifth inning and one run in the extra seventh inning for a 9-8 victory. Lead-off batter Gia Scott did it all on offense with three runs, two walks and one hit. She swiped three bags too. Jordan Price led the team with two hits, while Maddie Brown led the team with two RBIs.
In the second game, June 26, the girls were defeated 9-0 by a potent Lower Sussex offense, back by a very solid defense.
Luckily, the storms helped wash away the defeat, as the girls jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first inning of their first elimination game June 27. The weather persisted, though, and the game needed to resume June 28. The fast start helped the girls wrap up the game after three innings with a 17-2 win.
Hannah Hartstein led the charge with three RBIs and notched a home run. Pyper Willey led the squad with three runs scored and two hits, adding a walk and an RBI. Scott continued terrorizing the base paths with two more steals, giving her six in the three games.
Cape will take on Woodbridge at 8 p.m., Monday, June 29, at Nanticoke Little League. The winner will face the loser of the 6 p.m. game between Georgetown and Lower Sussex in the semifinals.
