Cape lacrosse players Elijah Ghabour and Ryan Andrew were remembered by friends, coaches, teammates and even opponents at the third annual Long Live Memorial Game Aug. 9, at the Ocean City Lacrosse Classic.
Ryan and Elijah were tragically killed in a car accident July 15, 2024.
The players were divided into Team Blue and Team White. The score in the game wasn’t important, just the love and camaraderie of the players, friends and families.
OC Lax Classic Tournament Director Colin Fagan, along with Cape lacrosse parent Neil Little, came up with the idea for the annual pickup game.
"It’s a pleasure working with the OC Classic and the Cape boosters to bring the local lacrosse community together to play the healing game to honor Elijah and Ryan, who we all greatly miss," said Little.
"This is a such a great day for our community and our lacrosse family to come together," said Cape coach Geoff Shupard. "None of us will ever fully heal from the loss of Ryan and Elijah, but playing the game that we all love together keeps us united and reminds us that we will always be there for each other. We are a family. Personally, that means the world to me, and I hope continuing to play this game helps all of us to keep moving forward."
