Cape sails past the Bucs 41-28

Vikings football pick up first win of season
November 8, 2020

The Cape Henlopen football team took a 41-28 victory over the Bucs Nov. 6 at Milford Briggs Stadium.

The Vikings rode their senior workhorse Jaden Davis, as he scored five touchdowns while rushing for 230 yards on 36 carries.

“Jaden [Davis] just goes,” smiled Cape head coach J.D. Maull. “Whatever we ask of him, he does it.”

Thomas Messick, Daniel Saez and Chancler Johnson and Hank D’Ambrogi carried for the remaining 16 yards for the Vikings. They totaled 228 yards rushing.

D’Ambrogi went 5-for-8 passing for 85 yards and one interception.

“Hank really gutted it out after getting injured in the third quarter,” Maull said. “He almost begged me to keep him in the game. He’s a gamer.”

Ja’Vaughn Burton was D’Ambrogi’s main target, catching three passes for 84 yards. Isaiah Fillyau pulled in two passes in the game.

The Vikings had 336 total yards on offense.

Maull was quick to point out the defensive performance of Keishawn Mansfield on one of Milford’s best receivers Kenny Reed.

“I asked who wanted to defend No. 1, and Keishawn hopped right on it. He’s only a sophomore, but he played tough on him.”

Other guys that played great were Isaiah Fillyau and LT Messick.

“LT is a sophomore and had a lot put on him in the game. I’m proud of him for that,” Maull said.

“On the offensive line Cade Benner, a transfer from San Diego, has been doing a fine job at center. And Lucas Ruppert is just Lucas and Jack Thompson at 6’5” and 255 pounds is pounding people.”

The Vikings move to 1-2 on the season. They will host Sussex Tech Saturday, Nov. 14. Game time is 11 a.m. No visiting spectators are permitted at the game.
