June 30, 2022

Diamond was Cape’s best friend in the victory over Lower Sussex June 29, as Noah Diamond drove a fastball into center field with the bases loaded to break a 7-7 tie in the seventh inning and propel the Cape senior all-stars past Lower Sussex 9-7. They will play in the final of the District 3 tournament Friday, July 1, in Georgetown.

In a back-and-forth game, Cape took a 1-0 lead in the first before the Lower Sussex squad answered with two in the third. Cape scored four in the fourth to go ahead 5-2. Lower Sussex added one in the fifth and four in the sixth to go up 7-5. Cape took advantage of the momentum and a couple of walks to load the bases in the seventh, then Diamond slammed a double to take the 9-7 victory.

Jackson Wood went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Diamond went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Austin Morrison, Malichi Woods, Reed Thompson, Colby Jester and Trey Hitchcock each drove in a run for Cape.

Hitchcock picked up the win on the mound, setting down the final three Lower Sussex batters in the seventh to ensure the victory for Cape.

Davis Watson and Nolan Staniszewski led the Lower Sussex squad with two RBIs each.
