Cape soccer lands the Eagles 4-0

Vikes move to 3-0
September 22, 2018

The Vikings scored three first-half goals, then finished off Smyrna with an insurance goal in the second to score a 4-0 shutout of the Eagles Sept. 20 at Legends Stadium.

“We were able to grab another win in the Henlopen North.” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “I believe our conference is the toughest in the state. I’m very impressed with our defensive third. We haven’t given up a goal in the flow of play all season. The only goal we gave up was a questionable penalty kick call against Dover.”

Dane Palmer put one past Smyrna goalie Nicholas Taylor at the 13-minute mark to open the scoring for the Vikings. Bradley Seneus was credited with the assist. Ten minutes later, Ilarion Swallow muscled through a defender and goalie to score off an assist from Arlleneiri Rodriguez. Seneus then picked up his second assist on a pass to Kevin Perez-Escalante, who scored out of an army of Eagles. Nathan Loucks finished the scoring at the 68-minute mark off a pass from Kannex Camarco.

The Vikings outshot the Eagles 14-2.

“We are winning games in the fashion of a true team effort,” Kilby said. “Everyone contributes; everyone gets playing time. The confidence that our coaching staff has in our roster is very high. This team provides so much depth. The question is can we continue in this upward trend and not get complacent?”

Cape was set to travel to Sussex Academy for a rescheduled match Monday, Sept. 24. Smyrna travels to SAS Tuesday, Sept 25.
