After a lackluster first half where the Cape soccer squad couldn't find the back of the net, the Vikings turned up the heat in the second half, scoring thrice to garner a 3-0 victory Sept. 22 over visiting Indian River. Cape moves to 3-1 on the season.
Goals were scored by Matthew Chandler-Thompson, Fernando Hernandez-Correas and Austin Tyndall. Assisting on two goals was Hernandez-Correas, while Seth Benjamin had a single helper.
"The second half was completely different from the first," said senior Jackson Hess. "We dominated possession and finished our chances."
The Vikings outshot the Indians 16-4. Goalies Connor Gordey and Kasen Adams had two saves each, while Indians keeper Shane Forjan stopped 13 shots.
"At halftime, we talked about how we were disjointed when entering the attacking third," said Cape coach patrick Kilby. "We were also able to add Fernando and Austin into the mix, [and] both players proved to be catalysts for change. We were able to be more fluent and precise with our attacking method."
Cape hosted Smyrna Sept. 24. The Vikings are back in action at 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Polytech (0-4).
