Cape used a strong second half to down the Senators 2-1 at Dover High School Sept. 13.
Cape fell behind at the 33-minute mark, when Pedro Gonzalez scored on a penalty kick. Cape goalie Alan Marin-Quiroz dove to his left and barely missed the save.
The second half found the Vikings going with the wind, and Gary Hayes powered home a goal off a pass from Juan Larez-Carillo at the 42-minute mark. Ilarion Swallow then blasted a shot off a pass from Kannex Camarco at the 62-minute mark to break the tie. The Vikings held on to score the 2-1 victory.
Cape outshot the Senators 14-3. Marin-Quiroz made three saves in the cage, while Dover’s Humberto Monasterio stopped 12 Cape shots.
“We showed a lot of resiliency when going down a goal on a questionable penalty kick call,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “To fight back in the second half like we did was a very good sign in what was our first game of the season. Our guys were able to show a lot of versatility in changing our game plan to put us in a position to come back and win. We were also able to control the majority of the match and earn a huge win in the land of the north.”
Cape will host Worcester Prep at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17.
