Cape softball shut out by Central 10-0

Layfield tosses no-hitter for the Knights
April 22, 2021

Sussex Central freshman Madge Layfield threw a no-hitter in the Golden Knights’ 10-0 victory over Cape April 20. Layfield struck out 12 batters to move Central to 9-1 on the season.

Central had three hits from Mya Jones, while Makenna Messina, Katelyn Evick and Layfield each had two. Takyla Davis added a hit.

“Kenna Justice battled at the plate today and put the ball in play,” said Cape head coach Shannon Timmons. “We tried the short game to make Central field the ball and make plays, but at the end of the day, credit to Central pitcher Madge Layfield for having our number all day. We have to get better at the plate and get our confidence back as hitters.”

Cape moves to 4-5 on the season.

The Lady Vikings will be back in action at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 24, when they host St. Georges.
