Cape students observe Thank a Police Officer Day

October 7, 2019

Sept. 21 was National Thank a Police Officer Day, and several classes in the Cape Henlopen School District made a point to recognize local police officers, even though it fell on the weekend.

Students at Shields Elementary School decorated goodie bags for Lewes Police Department officers and filled them with snacks, gift cards and handmade thank you cards.

CAP students then delivered the bags in person to Chief Thomas Spell of the Lewes Police Department.

Rehoboth Elementary second- grade students also shared their thank you’s with a Rehoboth Police Department officer and Delaware State Police’s Cpl. Paul LaPlaca.

Students gave them chocolate chip cookies and shared a story written collectively called, “If You Give a Police Officer a Cookie.” The second-graders also wrote and shared notes of appreciation with the officers.
