Vikings look to Henlopen Conference meet Feb. 8
February 5, 2020

The Cape swim teams had a final tune-up Feb. 5 against The Salisbury School before the Henlopen Conference meet this weekend, with a boys’ 133-13 and a girls’ 106-58 victory on Senior Day at the Sussex Family YMCA.

The boys’ team dominated all 11 events over the undermanned Dragons. In a showing of sportsmanship, Cape coach Bill Geppert had Sam Schoenfeld swim a leg of the 400 free relay with the Dragons.

The Salisbury School girls’ squad, behind the strong strokes of sophomore Alexis Robertson, took three events from Cape, but the Vikings’ depth squelched the Dragons’ hopes of an upset.

“We are ready for Saturday,” said senior Anna Stancofski. “The next three practices will help us prepare even more. We’re all super excited and hope to bring home another conference meet title.”

“I’m excited for conferences,” said junior Aya Daisey. “I feel ready because I’ve been working hard on the mechanics of my strokes. So I’m nervous, but I’m excited to perform this weekend.”

“Everyone has been working so hard in the swim season, and it’s a great opportunity to get hype for states as well,” said Amaya Daisey. “Nervousness comes naturally, but I’m excited for what is to come and no matter what happens.”

“We’re trying to keep our team focused for Saturday’s conference meet,” said head coach Bill Geppert. “We had to make some tough choices about who's going Saturday due to meet structure. We would like to take everybody, but it doesn't work out that way. We will certainly try our best.”

The Vikings girls’ squad end their regular-season record at 10-2, while the boys finish at 8-4.
