Cape swimming glides by Dover

January 24, 2020

The Cape swim teams stroked to easy wins Jan. 24 over the Senators at the Central Delaware YMCA in Dover.

The Vikings girls’ squad won 10 of 11 events, while the boys took first in all 11 events.

The victories over the Senators gave Cape head coach Bill Geppert his 400th win as head coach. His first win came over Dover in 1998.

“We really mixed it up against Dover,” said Geppert. “I wanted to get some times for our kids in different events and give them another opportunity to make state times. I was pleased with their performance and look forward to a tough week ahead against IR and Sussex Academy, two great teams with great swimmers.”

Cape will swim against Indian River Tuesday, Jan. 28, and Sussex Academy Thursday, Jan. 30.

“I was impressed with Dover’s new coach Alexis Huttie,“ said Geppert. “She is really enthusiastic about building a strong program there.”

The Vikings witnessed another milestone at the meet, as Aya Daisey became just the ninth team member in the history of Cape swimming to win a prestigious Elite 8 Award by swimming a state time in all eight individual events in her three seasons on the team. She completed this by finishing the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:53.15 against the Senators.

The girls’ squad swims to 8-1, while the boys are 7-2.
