I think that the girls really wanted to beat the tough Tech team, so we all tried our very best. I think all of the girls are motivated this year and just happy that we actually have a season.”

The Vikings‘ boys’ team followed up with a winning performance. It was the Vikings’ first victory over the Ravens’ boys since the 2014-15 season. “This meet was definitely one of our most important meets of the season,” said senior Liam Leishear. “We haven’t won over the Tech boys in six years. This was definitely the start to a great season, and our numbers not only helped us, but lots of teammates have improved themselves and worked hard since the last year. Even if we didn’t take first, we would take second, third and fourth, giving us the two-point advantage over Tech.”

The Ravens took first in the 200 free by Evan Davis in 1:56.22. The 200 IM was won by Owen Pogwist in 2:09.87. Nathan Venables took first in the 50 free in 23.27. Davis won the 100 fly in 56.23 while Pogwist won the 100 backstroke at 1:02.98.

“We are really proud of our swimmers who are swimming this season during the pandemic,” said Tech coach Michele Thomas. “Our small boys’ team had great swims, as did our young girls’ team. We saw some great times posted by the kids, as we always enjoy competing against the tough Cape swim team”

“We were very pleased with the intensity our team brought to this meet,” said Cape coach Bill Geppert. “Its always exciting when you swim Tech. They are well coached and bring their best when they swim us.  It has been a great rivalry over the years. Our kids continue to work hard and their consistent times show it. Our depth really helped us tonight. One of our swimmers was sick and others were away on vacation, but people like freshman Wilson Ingerski and junior Molly Mendes stepped up to fill the void. They both did a great job.”
