The Cape Henlopen girls’ basketball team sent drama to the doorway March 1 at the Big House, running the St. Georges Hawks out of the gym 55-17. The emphatic victory improved Cape’s overall record to 19-3, as the eighth-seeded Vikings move on to the quarterfinal round Monday, March 4, to face top-seeded St. Elizabeth’s.

“This season has been so much fun and drama free,” said senior starter Niya Mosley, who scored nine points and grabbed double-digit rebounds. “Everybody plays their part. If we all play good on the same night, we can play with anyone.”

There were no big scorers for Cape in the game, where Mehkia Applewhite led the way with 12 points. She was followed by Abbey Hearn with 10, Mosley with nine, Morgan Mahoney with nine and Dania Cannon with eight points.

Coach Pat Woods was distracted after the game – “where’s my keys? Has anyone seen my keys?” – before focusing on Monday night.

“[St. Elizabeth’s] are tough, but we are also much better than we were Jan. 26 when we lost to them here 59-50,” Woods said. “We’ll give it a shot. Big game, big crowd, that’s what it’s all about. Hey, does anyone have my keys?”
