Cape volleyball digs win at Polytech

Vikings play complete match
October 15, 2018

The Cape volleyball squad moved to 7-4 on the season with a 25-15, 25-21 and 25-21 win over Polytech on Oct. 11 in Woodside.

The Vikings were led by Abbey Derrickson with 20 assists and Mikiyah Ennals with 12 kills. Emily Lamb picked up eight digs, and Mackenzie Parker powered in six aces.

“I stumbled a little bit at first,” said Parker. “But I got back in the groove and hit some good serves.”

“I’m focusing a lot on my service-receive,” Lamb said. “We were playing really closer tonight. We are excited, and it was a lot of fun.”

Katie Knarr put seven kills in the book, while Teaghan Van Brunt picked up nine assists and slammed four aces. Abby Bucklin had six digs.

“I felt good at the net,” said Knarr. “We have a few hard games coming up, but if we continue to work hard, we’ll be OK.”

“I’m happy with the complete game we played tonight,” said Cape coach Tyler Coupe. “Our passing was some of the best it’s been all year, led by Emily Lamb and Abby Bucklin. They did a great job on serve-receive, putting us in a position for offense success. We were much more consistent at the net. I think we’re doing a good job being a multi-dimensional offense, which is great to see. This last quarter of the season is going to be tough, but we just have to keep focused on the next step of our ladder.”

The Vikings junior varsity squad moved to 8-3 on the season with a 2-1 victory over the JV Panthers.

The Vikings return home Tuesday, Oct. 16, to host Sussex Academy.
