Cape volleyball falls to Central 3-2

The Cape volleyball squad went the distance and more with Sussex Central Sept. 30, but fell 18-16 in the fifth set to give the Golden Knights a 3-2 hard-fought victory.

Sussex Central moves to 6-2 on the season, while the Lady Vikings move to 3-3.

Central came out on top of a 19-25, 25-22, 25-27, 25-19 and 18-16 contest to garner the victory.

Megan Smith set 47 shots for the Vikings and bumped six digs. Rileigh Wilson knocked down 23 kills and bumped six digs. Natalie Derrickson bumped 13 digs and had two aces. Kali Lawson hit 12 kills, bumped 17 digs and slammed three aces. Laurelee Mobius slammed seven kills. Hope Reed pounded four kills,, bumped two digs and served an ace. Harlee Graulich bumped nine digs and served two aces. Tatum Friend had a kill, three blocks and one dig. Minami Sano had six digs.

The Central squad was led by Madelynn McTeer with 43 assists, six digs and two aces, with most of her assists going to Bre Reid, who slammed 35 kills in the match. Reid also delivered eight aces and four digs. Katie Evick knocked 11 kills, bumped seven digs and served an ace. Trinity Harris, Makenna Messina, Takyla Davis, Alaya Mills and Kaylee Verosko teamed to contribute five kills, two aces, five blocks, 10 digs and three assists.
