The Cape volleyball team downed the Golden Knights 3-1 with 25-6, 25-7, 17-25 and 25-14 scores Sept. 28 in Georgetown.

Sophia Spinelli led the Vikings with 11 kills and six aces, while Maddy Holt slammed seven kills and Mikiyah Ennals hit five. Logan Shuttleworth assisted on 19 points, while Emily Lamb gathered nine digs.

The Lady Vikings hosted Seaford Friday, Sept. 29, and shut out the Blue Jays 3-0 with a 25-7, 25-10 and 25-13 final score.

Shuttleworth served 10 aces and assisted on 12 points in the match. Lamb served six aces; Spinelli and Ennals pounded five kills each and Abigail Derrickson had six helpers.

Cape has won three in a row to move its record to 3-4 on the season.

“I was happy with how our girls finished this week,” said Cape coach Tyler Coupe. “It was hectic and a little busy at times, but they were able to maintain their control and focus, and come out with three wins. I thought our serving throughout both matches on Thursday and Friday was strong and consistent, which put us in a strong position to succeed. We were able to get all players involved too, which is nice, because there already have been and will continue to be times where not everyone will see the court.”

The team helped out by volunteering at Coast Day Sunday, Oct. 1, and they have a big week of matches this week with Sanford and Tech.

“Sanford’s record may not reflect it, but they will be a tough and well-disciplined team,” said Coupe.

The Cape JV squad defeated Sussex Central and Seaford 2-0 and moved their record to 5-2.
