Cape volleyball improves to 7-1 with shutout win at Central

Bre Kusen records a season best 15 kills

The Cape Henlopen volleyball team won three straight games at Sussex Central Nov. 10, winning 25-22, 25-12 and 25-17 to improve to 7-1 on the season. 

The Golden Knights dropped to 3-3 after its first shutout loss of the season.

Cape was powered by the usual suspects at the net, with Bre Kusen (15), Rileigh Wilson (12) and Katie Knarr (7) combining for 34 kills. 

Megan Smith continued to be the assist machine on the front line with 34 helpers. Emily Lamb had 10 digs, while Angelica Kusen, Kali Lawson and Jocelyn Leach rounded out the rotation blocking, digging and serving on winning rallies. 

“We are improving each day, and I include practice in that assessment,” said coach Tyler Coupe. 

Sussex Central was powered by Brenya Reid with 13 kills, Madelynn McTeer with 15 assists and Makenna Messina with seven digs. 

Cape is scheduled to play at 8-1 Indian River Thursday, Nov. 12. Sussex Central will play at Delmarva Christian.
