Cape volleyball soars past Seahawks

The Cape volleyball team kept the forward momentum going, rolling to an easy 3-0 win over Sussex Academy at home Oct. 16.

The Vikings opened the night with a 25-18 win in the first set. Cape rolled the Seahawks 25-6 in the second, before closing out the night with a 25-21 win in the third and final set. 

Cape was led in kills by Erin Morrissey with eight, and Mikiyah Ennals and Rileigh Wilson each recorded seven. Emily Lamb led the way in blocks with six, while Ennals tallied two. Abby Bucklin collected 17 digs on the night, and Abbey Derrickson put up 15 assists.

No stats were available for Sussex Academy.

The win was the sixth straight for the Vikings, who improved to 8-4 on the season. The Seahawks dropped to 4-7.

Before the match, seniors Mikiyah Ennals, Abby Bucklin and Mackenzie Parker were honored. Cape also honored Sussex Academy seniors Searra Pollitt and Carly Fajardo. 

The Cape JV squad earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Seahawks. After falling 26-24 in the first set, the Vikings battled back and won the second 25-14. Cape then overcame a deficit in the third set for a 15-13 victory and the team’s sixth straight match win. 

Cape will be back on the court Thursday, Oct. 18, when the team travels to Dover to take on the 9-3 Senators. Sussex Academy will host Lake Forest on Friday, Oct. 19.
