The Cape volleyball team moved to 4-1 on the season with a dominating 25-3, 25-4, 25-12 victory over visiting Delmar Sept. 22.
“An efficient performance by the ladies tonight," said Cape coach Tyler Coupe. "One of the biggest things I wanted them to prove to themselves was that we can serve aggressively but in bounds. We’ve had a sneaky issue of missing first serve in consecutive rotations, and it’ll just fully deflate any chance of building momentum and energy."
Coupe said Camilla Willis, Sophia Winkfield and Amara Fruchtman each had strong service runs of pressure. Coupe also noted first-year varsity player Fiona Paul is playing hard and enjoying the experience.
"It's my first time in the middle too," Paul said. "I'm used to playing outside where I get to set more, but I'm getting used to being a hitter. We have to get ready to play better against Smyrna and [Newark] Charter."
The Vikings were set to face Smyrna Sept. 24, before hosting Newark Charter Saturday, Sept. 26.
"It was good to be out on the court," said sophomore Mia Pettengell, who made numerous diving digs in the match. "We are pretty confident right now."
Harper Mamele led the way with 16 kills, five aces and two blocks. Paul and Addison Mohacey had seven and six kills, respectively. Fruchtman and Willis each collected six digs, while Winkfield put up 26 assists.
