Cape wrestling rolls over Wilmington Charter 61-9

Seven Vikings head to Beast of the East tournament

The Force of Wilmington Charter got smoked at Cape Henlopen Dec. 18, losing to the Vikings 61-9 on the underside of five pins, two forfeits, a technical fall and two major decisions. 

Winning by pin for Cape were: 113, Josh Wright over Collin Fanning (2:00); 126, CJ Fritchman over Kyler Grendahl (0:46); 138, Luke Bender over Asa Fay (2:48); 145, Mikey Frederick over Gabriel Ramirez (3:12); and 160, Juan Lares over Jack Eckerson (3:47). 

Finbar Rishko (152) won by tech fall over Ronan McDevitt in 3:29, Gary Hayes (170) won by major decision over Peter Lindwall (15-5), and Cameron Smith (195) won (14-5) over Ben Hess. 

Freshman Brexton Carter (120) got a win in his first varsity match, beating Joshua Grendahl 3-1. 

Andre Currie (182) and Jackson Handlin (215) received forfeits. 

Charter secured a win at 106 as Colin Nowak pinned Holt Baker in 4:33, and top eliminator Dominic Ball (132) outlasted Carson Kammerer to post a 6-3 win by decision.  

Cape will be on the tournament trail until Wednesday, Jan. 8, when they host the Caesar Rodney Riders.
