Cecil I. Jones, Cape District custodian

Cecil I. Jones was born Thursday, May 25, 1950, to the late Daniel Ervin Jones and Hettie Ann Riley Jones in Weems, Va. After a lengthy illness, Cecil, 68, of Lewes, departed this life Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at his home. 

Cecil I. Jones attended William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown, and graduated from Lewes High School.

Cecil worked as a diesel mechanic at the Lewes Navy Base from 1975-80. After the Navy Base closed in 1980, he transferred to Dover Air Force Base and worked in CEMIRT.  Later, he worked there as an HVAC technician until his retirement in 2005. After retirement, he decided to keep busy by substituting at Cape Henlopen School District as a custodian for eight years. 

Cecil enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandsons, who were the apples of his eye. His hobbies included camping, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, hunting, playing baseball for the Sussex All-Stars, cutting grass, clipping coupons, barbecuing and watching western movies. Last but not least, he loved going back home to Virginia, to get fish and bring them back to Delaware to share with his family, neighbors and friends.

Cecil was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Ervin Jones; mother, Hettie Ann Riley Jones; and father-in-law, Ralph Clinton Morris. 

Cecil will be remembered by his beloved wife, Teresa L. Jones; two daughters, Cecilia Lewis (Walter) of Owings Mills, Md., and Natasha Timmons (Julius) of Dover; siblings, Larry Jones (Rebecca)  of Belltown, Diane Wright (James) of Salisbury, Md., Carolyn Peeks of Pittsburgh, Pa., Peggy Sampson (Sam) of Harbeson, Gwenda Adamson (Danny) of Seaford, Judy Jones of Georgetown and Daniel Jones (Cathy) of Jackson, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Kenneth and Kyle Grant, Julius Jr., Jaxon and Jayce Timmons; mother-in-law, Alberta Morris; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.

The  Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, with viewing  beginning at 10 a.m. and service at noon.
