September 15, 2018

A ceiling collapse has resulted in minor injuries for an elderly Milford couple staying in Dewey Beach.

About 12:07 a.m., Sept. 15, Dewey Beach Police Department responded to a Read Avenue home where a ceiling had collapsed.

Officers found a man, 79, and a woman, 68, both of Milford, injured in the collapse. The couple was asleep when two sheets of drywall and insulation fell from the ceiling on top of them, but they were able to free themselves.

Both victims were taken to Beebe Healthcare in Lewes by Rehoboth Beach EMS with minor non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation. The Dewey Beach Building Official and Sussex County Building Code Office responded and are assisting with the investigation.
