Champions Field Hockey Camp makes future champs

Thirty-five future hockey stars took part in the annual Champions Field Hockey Camp at Cape Henlopen’s Champions Stadium July 8-11. DAN COOK PHOTOS

The annual Champions Field Hockey Camp took place July 8-11 at Champions Stadium on the Cape Henlopen High School athletic complex.

The participants learned ball-control skills, dodging, dribbling, defensive footwork and tackling, passing, shooting, and offensive and defensive strategy. Campers played 7-on-7 games as well as full-field games.

Coaching at the camp were former Cape players Izzie Delario, Annie Judge, Jody Boyer, and West Chester goalie and present Caesar Rodney coach Brittney Stewart, who coached the goalkeepers. Cape coaches Kate Austin and Debbie Windett are camp coordinators.

“It was a great camp,” said rising Cape senior Abby Kane. “We learned more skills and situational drills while having fun with the team.”
