Charles (Michael) Johnson, 68, of Westminster, Md., passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, in the care of hospice after a courageous battle with ALS.
He was born Sept. 29, 1954, in Lewes, but spent his later years in Gaithersburg, Md., and Westminster.
Michael graduated from Cape Henlopen High School in 1972. He was an avid sportsman in his early years playing tennis, then later swimming and cycling. He ran several marathons and competed in triathlons. His longest cycling distance was 135 miles, with his best marathon time of 2:52.
Michael was preceded in death by his father Clifford E. Johnson Jr.; mother Ann E. West (Smith); and brother Clifford (Bud) E. Johnson III. He is survived by two sons, Patrick of Westminster, Md., and Andrew of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; grandson, Max; and siblings Jay, Randy and Kathy.
