Charles Perry Higgins Jr., retired supervisor

Charles Perry Higgins Jr., affectionally known as Butch, 76, of Milton, formerly of Hackettstown, N.J., died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes, surrounded by his loving family.  Butch was born Sept. 16, 1942, in Newark, N.J., son of the late Charles and Helen F. (Cogan) Higgins Sr. 

Butch served proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1961-67.  He was previously employed by Weiss-Aug, East Hanover as a supervisor before retiring several years ago.  Butch was a former member of the Hackettstown Fire Department, where he served from 1970 until he relocated to Delaware in 2013.  He was an up-and-coming golfer, reader, and in addition, he enjoyed playing pickleball.  When not outside, he was an avid New York sports fan rooting tirelessly for the Rangers, Yankees and Giants. Butch was a people person with many friends, but most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (nee Chapman) Higgins; his cherished daughter, Theresa "Terri" Walters and husband William; his beloved son, Kieran Higgins and wife Barbara; two sisters, Margaret Valentine and Pamela Smith; and six grandchildren, Connor, Nathaniel, Amelia, Kathryn, Kyle and Blake.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at Church Of The Assumption Of The Blessed Mary, 305 High St., Hackettstown, with Father Antony Arockiadoss officiating.  Cremation is private. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 7, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Cochran Funeral Home Inc., 905 High St.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hackettstown Fire Department, 110 Moore St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840 in memory of Charles.
