Charlotte Dale Burkett, incredible work ethic

March 7, 2018

Charlotte Dale Burkett, 82, of Lewes passed away peacefully at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, Monday Jan. 1, 2018. Charlotte was born in Wilmington Feb. 24, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jesse (Haughey) Burkett. She was the eighth of 11 children.

A Delaware native, Charlotte moved to San Jose, Calif., in 1973 and worked for the County of Santa Clara as a department control tech II in data processing. She then retired in 1998 and returned to Delaware. Charlotte worked all her life and had an incredible work ethic. She worked and worked, and then worked some more. She absolutely loved and adored her home. It was her pride and joy. She enjoyed antiquing with her sisters, attending family reunions, and watching her great-grandchildren's ball games. She also enjoyed bird watching. She loved her church and her family. She absolutely loved the smell of the ocean but would never put her feet in.

All who knew Charlotte knew she was the most selfless person that you would ever meet. When she wasn't working she would volunteer in any way she could at the local soup kitchen and at her church. Every bone in her body was honest and full of sassiness. She was our favorite, and we will miss her smile and her laugh, but mostly we will miss her. We will cherish all of the memories of Charlotte, our mother, our grandmother, our sister and our friend.

Charlotte was a loving mother who is survived by two sons, William A. Nussbaumer and Robert Nussbaumer (Diane); granddaughters, Jennifer Elizabeth Nussbaumer-Valencia (Arthur); Rakel Inga Nussbaumer and Bailey Marie Nussbaumer; great-grandchildren, Hanna Nussbaumer and Cade Cockrell; sisters, Ellen (John) Sobieski and Sandra Burkett; brother, Lee (Doris) Burkett and her baby, Lunchbox.

In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Nathan Dale; her brothers, Joseph Burkett, Herman Burkett, Milton Burkett and Robert Burkett; and her sisters, Jaqueline Woods, Janet Pierce and Carolyn Bogia.

Services to celebrate Charlotte's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 13, at Conley's United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyn's Way, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Conley's United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyn's Way, Lewes, DE 19958.
