January 6, 2021

Charlotte Schmierer Quillen, 92, passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, in the comfort of her home in Rehoboth Beach, with her family by her side.  She was born April 21, 1928, in Lewes, daughter of the late Harold and Alberta Schmierer of Rehoboth Beach.

Charlotte worked for Delmarva Power early on and then owned and operated Quillen’s Hardware on Rehoboth Avenue until its closing. Charlotte and Dennard also built 3 Seasons Camping Resort in Rehoboth Beach, offering an upscale camping experience for RV’ers. Soon after marrying her husband, Dennard, her mother-in-law passed away, and she moved into the family home and cared for Dennard’s father while Dennard was in the service. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband Dennard F. Quillen Jr.; and her two sons, Denny and his wife Judy, and Chris and his wife Dayna. Charlotte was a grandmother to five grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a private entombment service at the Epworth Methodist Cemetery in Rehoboth for immediate family members only.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be sent to the SPCA Chapter of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
