Chef Hari Cameron to demo at Lewes farmers market Sept. 21

September 18, 2019

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at George H.P. Smith Park on the corner of Johnson and Dupont avenues.

Offerings will include Gala, Honeycrisp and Fuji apples, apple butter, apple jelly, pure apple cider and apple-cider doughnuts, all freshly made and picked for the fall market. Mesclun mixes, broccoli, cabbage, potatoes, and squash all appear at this time of year. The market offers grass-fed beef, lamb and pork, chicken, eggs, milk, yogurt, jams, honey, soaps, pastries, cut flowers and herbs.

At 10 a.m. in the demo tent, Chef Hari Cameron will work his magic with market produce. Cameron attended the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia. In 2012, he opened his first solo restaurant, a(MUSE.) in Rehoboth Beach. Three years later, he launched casual, pasta-focused grandpa (MAC). For his progressive, Mid-Atlantic cuisine at a(MUSE.), Cameron earned national attention including James Beard nominations for Rising Star Chef and Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic.

The market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants can come to the SNAP tent to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the market. WIC and SFMNP coupons are also accepted at the market.

The market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Customers can park at the Lewes and Shields School parking lots, off the corner of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive. The market provides a Veggie Valet service at the information tent to help customers carry items to their cars.

In case of inclement weather, the market moves to Shields Elementary School parking lot.

More information about the market is available at www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org, or call 302-644-1436.
