The Cape Henlopen Education Foundation held its annual Winter Jam fundraiser Feb. 1 on a snowy evening at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach. The event featured live music from The Rockets, delicious food specialties from top area restaurants, libations, dancing, a gift card tree, and a silent auction featuring area artists.
Winter Jam serves as the primary funding for Cape School District’s unfunded or underfunded programs. In the 2017-18 school year, CHEF invested over $25,000 in those programs through grants, and they hope to far exceed that goal this year for the students. In the last seven years, CHEF has contributed $157,167 to over 251 grant awardees.
Programs funded by CHEF include cultural events for students to experience outside of the classroom, robotics clubs, STEM projects and other science/technology related interests, positive behavior programs within the schools, college tours and initiatives, arts programs (field trips to see concerts, musicals, plays), after-school programs, such as Cape Carousel, funding for low-income students for field trips, technology, basic needs and for teacher support.
