Chefs and critics announced for Sept. 27 Milton cook-off

August 26, 2018

The Milton Historical Society will present an evening of fun, food, friends, music, and prizes at the 3rd Annual King Cole Cannery Celebrity Chef Cook-Off from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, in the Milton Fire Hall.

Seven local chefs will be showcased as they prepare culinary delights using vegetables and fruits that would have been canned at the former King Cole Cannery, as well as chicken from Allen Harim and beef from the Butcher Block. After sampling the chefs' creations, guests will vote for their favorite taste treat to determine which chef will win the People's Choice Award. A panel of three well-known food experts, Bob Yesbek, Denise Clemons and Eban Brittingham, will also serve as celebrity judges to decide the winner of the Critics' Choice Award from among the competing chefs. The Milton Historical Society event organizers are pleased that the following chefs will participate in the cook-off: Mary Gaffney of A Different Kitchen, Kevin Reading of Abbott's Grill, Drew Boyle of Bethany Blues, Mike Clampitt of Po' Boys Creole Restaurant, Chris Parks of Lupo Italian Kitchen, Vincent Modesto of The Butcher Block, and a chef from Gilligan's Waterfront Restaurant.

In addition to the scrumptious chef’s offerings, light appetizers, a dessert, and complimentary water and soda will be provided. The evening will include live music performed by Jeff Evans, a cash bar offering wine and Dogfish Head beer, and chances to win raffle baskets full of fabulous gifts. All baskets are valued at over $150 and contain a variety of appealing items from local businesses, as well as tickets to events and museums. Raffle tickets cost $10 each or eight for $50 and may be purchased in advance or at the event. Winners do not need to be present to win but must be available to pick up their prize from the Milton Historical Society by Thursday, Oct. 4.

Tickets are limited. MHS members are encouraged to purchase theirs before Thursday, Sept. 21 at $35 each. Tickets purchased at the door are $45 for members, as are all tickets for nonmembers. All proceeds go to support the Milton Historical Society’s programs, walking tours, lectures, new exhibits and a wide variety of educational programs for local children.
