Chick-Fil-A most popular in Delaware

According to TOP Data, a nationwide marketing firm, more and more people during the COVID-19 pandemic are turning to fast-food restaurants because of drive-thru and carhop options.

In the Cape Region, residents and tourists continue to support a plethora of local restaurants. Under Phase 2 of the state of emergency, many restaurants have reopened their dining rooms for up to 60 percent capacity, while others remain limited to carry-out food.

“Prior to the pandemic, traditional fast food was seemingly giving way to farm-to-table, gluten-free and brunch. Now, thanks to social distancing and a desire for contactless service, the drive-thru and the carhop are once again en vogue,” said publicist Cynthia Martinez.

In Delaware, the top five most popular fast-food chains are: 1. Chick-fil-A, 2. Taco Bell, 3. Burger King, 4. McDonald’s, 5. Subway.

Nationwide, Sonic, known for its carhop servers on roller skates, has emerged as the most popular chain followed by Wendy’s and Taco Bell. Sonic has a restaurant on Route 13 south of Bridgeville in western Sussex County.

The top five in nearby states are:

Maryland: 1. Chick-fil-A, 2. Taco Bell, 3. Burger King, 4. McDonald’s, 5. Subway.

Pennsylvania: 1. McDonald’s, 2. Wendy’s, 3. Chick-fil-A, 4. Burger King, 5. Subway.

New Jersey: 1. Wendy’s, 2. McDonald’s, 3. Taco Bell, 4. Burger King, 5. Subway.

Virginia: 1. McDonald’s, 2. Taco Bell, 3. Chick-fil-A, 4. Wendy’s, 5. Subway.
