Chicks for Charity to support Veterans Trust Fund Sept. 18

August 30, 2018

Retired Col. Angela Showell of the Delaware Army National Guard will work with Chicks for Charity to benefit the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund at a dinner fundraiser Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Irish Eyes in Lewes.

Chicks for Charity is dedicated to assisting those less fortunate. They’ve aided residents of Sussex County beginning with their first dinner in July 2010.

Showell serves as vice chair of the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs, and is a board member of the Friends of Delaware Veterans, the fundraising organization of the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund.

The trust fund was signed into law in 2013 to provide a hand up to honorably discharged veterans in proven need. It is not part of the state budget, so revenue must come from contributions and fundraising events.

The Friends board members, all veterans and all volunteers, work with community groups, individuals and other donors to help their fellow veterans of all generations. Last year, more than $80,000 was approved for payment to prevent utility disconnections, evictions, and repossessions, make emergency repairs on homes and sometimes put food on the table.

The $30 dinner is open to the public and will include a silent auction. To reserve a spot, email chicksdinner@gmail.com. To donate a raffle or silent auction item, email ajester.aj@gmail.com.

For more information, go to www.DelawareVeteransTrustFund.com. All of the money stays in Delaware, and contributions are tax deductible.
