Choose Byrne, Coluzzi for bright Rehoboth future

August 7, 2018

I very much appreciate the efforts Rehoboth Beach candidates Coluzzi, Byrne, and Glass are putting into this year's critical election on Aug. 11.

I am, however, concerned about the platform proposed by Mr. Glass. Mr. Glass supports spending even more time and resources on creating ordinances to eliminate "mini hotels." This is problematic for two reasons. One, the citizens and commissioners voted, after very contentious debates, on new ordinances to address this issue three years ago, which are now being enforced. Two, Mr. Glass himself rents out rooms in his home, so it is not clear how he actually is against mini-hotels.

Additionally, rather than propose new actions to focus on the future of the city, Mr. Glass wants to simply put new taxes in place – on hotels, local businesses, and wants a lottery system to limit rental licenses.

These are not the city priorities I want to see.

This is why I am supporting Coluzzi and Byrne. Both support more public-private partnerships to solve problems; they want to fairly and equitably listen to property owners, businesses, and our guests, and put in place common sense policies that support a future vision of cleanliness, safety, and hospitality, such as more consistent approaches to protecting our trees; continuing efforts to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety; beautify Rehoboth by leading efforts to provide canal access; and work with businesses to improve our commercial districts and solve parking – and to not just tax and spend.

Please join me in voting for Coluzzi and Byrne – our city's future depends on it.
