Christa Showard, a shining light

November 11, 2020

On Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, this world lost another angel. Christa Showard, 43, passed away from a rare form of cancer, endometrial stromal sarcoma. She is survived by her mother, Wanda Stanfield; sister, Sherry Smith; bothers, Jerry Showard and Jesse Showard; sister-in-law Amber Showard; and her cherished nieces Jessica Showard and Jasmine Burnette.

Christa was a shining light like no other. She held warmth, beauty, insight, passion and glow, but carried it all with humility, appreciation and grace. She has left her mark on everyone she met. She lived each day with gratitude and encouraged others to do the same. She sought all that was in her highest good, even when it wasn’t what her ego wanted. She found her own beliefs in this life, a combination of many. Belonging to no one religion, she took only what felt right to her soul from each as she searched for her purpose and developed her spirituality.

Christa’s purpose in this life was to be a seeker and a teacher. She sought the wisdom of God and the Universe, and taught it to the rest of us. We often think that it is the Mother Theresas, Martin Luther Kings, and Gandhis who have the most impact on the world. Then we are blessed with people like Christa Showard. Someone who sneaks into our lives and hearts without knowing they’ve even done it. Someone who teaches us to love ourselves and all mankind, no matter our differences. Someone who teaches us the world can be so much more than we have thought it to be, if we will only let go of the pain and traumas of our past. It is the everyday, extraordinary people like Christa who truly demonstrate the teachings of these other greats for us. People like Christa truly teach us that we too can be great people.

As she would always say, everything happens for a reason, and everyone has a purpose. Her purpose was fulfilled by teaching us all how to be better. It is now up to us to continue the ripples of her teachings in our everyday. Forgive old grudges, heal generational traumas, seek all that is in your highest good, and love. Honor her memory by loving each other and loving yourself.
