Cinema Art Theater opens to patrons June 5

June 4, 2020

Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will open to the public Friday, June 5.

Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. Admission for all listed films is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers.

“The Trip to Greece” will run at 4 and 7 p.m., Friday, June 5; 4 and 7 p.m, Saturday, June 6; and 3 p.m., Sunday, June 7. Showings continue through Wednesday, June 11.

This poignant comedy features funnymen Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon playing coyly fictionalized versions of themselves. When Odysseus left Troy, it took him 10 years to get back to his home in Ithaca. Steve and Rob have only six days on their own personal odyssey. On the way they argue about tragedy and comedy, astronomy and biology, myth, history, democracy and the meaning of life. The film features beautiful locations such as the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus and the unique island of Hydra.

“How to Build A Girl” will be screened at 3 and 6 p.m., Friday, June 5; 3 and 6 p.m., Saturday, June 6; and 2 p.m., Sunday, June 7. More screenings continue through Wednesday, June 11.

Johanna Morrigan (Beanie Feldstein) is a bright, quirky 16-year-old who uses her colorful imagination to escape her humdrum life in Wolverhampton, England, and live out her creative fantasies. Desperate to break free from the overcrowded flat she shares with her four brothers and eccentric parents, she submits an earnestly penned, offbeat music review to a group of self-important indie rock critics at a weekly magazine. Despite being brushed off initially, Johanna clambers to the top of the ‘90s rock music scene by reinventing herself as Dolly Wilde – a venerable, impossible-to-please music critic with an insatiable lust for fame, fortune and men. It isn’t long before the rapid pace at which Johanna’s life is changing becomes overwhelming and she runs face-first into a devastatingly real existential crisis: Is this the type of girl she wants to become? Or does she need to start over and build from the ground up? This sassy, sexy comedy is seen through the lens of a unique and wildly hilarious protagonist.

“Shirley” screenings will begin Friday, June 5.  The spellbinding drama depicts a famous horror writer who finds inspiration for her next book after she and her husband take in a young couple. Shirley Jackson (played by award-winning Elisabeth Moss) is on the precipice of writing her masterpiece when the arrival of newlyweds upends her meticulous routine and heightens tensions in her already tempestuous relationship with her philandering husband. The middle-aged couple, prone to ruthless barbs and copious afternoon cocktails, begins to toy mercilessly with the naïve young couple at their door.
