Claire M. Worthington, retired buyer

Claire M. Worthington, 99, of Selbyville, formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Saturday, June 1, 2019.

Claire was born in Philadelphia, Sept. 19, 1919, daughter of the late Edward Francis Welsh and the late Kathryn (Hess) Welsh.  She had worked as an assistant buyer for Strawbridge & Clothier Department Store prior to her retirement.  

She was very active in the Eastern Star, the Red Hat Society and a member of the Community Lutheran Church in Frankford.  She will be remembered as a loving mother, Oma and GG. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester R. Worthington Sr. June 29, 1944; and her three sisters.  Claire is survived by her son, Lester R. Worthington Jr. and his wife Dottie; three granddaughters, Lisa Mansi and her husband Rob, Heather Hoth and her husband Tony, and Andi Friedland and her husband Mike; and five great-grandchildren.  

A celebration of Claire’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 7, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Claire’s name to a charity of your choice.
