Clear Space board member speaks out

February 11, 2021

My name is Megan Nehrbas and I have recently been selected as a new board member for Clear Space Theatre.  I was chosen specifically because I am the mother of three Clear Space Arts Institute students who have taken every educational opportunity Clear Space offers and because the current board is looking for feedback on those opportunities.

I would like to address the concern surrounding onsite parking and the statement that it is required because “Clear Space conducts hundreds of education related services each year.” As my children have taken all (age-appropriate) classes offered, I can attest that this is simply not true.  Clear Space offers exactly five classes.  Babies on Broadway for 3-6-year-olds, Broadway Bound for elementary through middle school age, Legends for adults 50+, and a fourth class (if you want to count it as a class) is Spotlight on Young Performers.

Spotlight on Young Performers is really more of a full production than a class; tickets are sold and the public is welcome to enjoy the very high-quality productions these kids produce. Dance technique is now an add-on training component for our Spotlight students, so I will liberally call that a fifth class to be fair.  As far as additional educational services, I am very proud of our educational outreach.  Clear Space does partner with area schools and provides arts education at the school facility, not onsite, and I look forward to seeing that outreach grow in the future.

In light of this information, I offer this corrective statement: “Clear Space provides art education services and outreach that touches hundreds of area children each year.”
