Clear Space offers musical theatre and acting summer camps

Next intensive experience starts July 16
July 11, 2018

Families who are looking to combine a week at the beach with a wonderful summer camp experience for the kids will want to check out Clear Space Theatre’s musical theatre and acting summer camp intensives.

Campers at each Musical Theatre Camp session spend a full week creating and performing numbers from a Broadway musical. This performance-based experience includes group rehearsals, and instruction in acting, dance and vocal technique. Each session culminates in two free performances on the last day of camp. Intensives are led by David Button, Clear Space Theatre artistic director; instructors include professional performers and educators.

Megan Nehrbas, parent of a Clear Space Summer Camper, said, “We took John to New York City to see ‘Aladdin’ on Broadway. He was enthralled! I asked him if he wanted to try a theatre camp, and he shouted, ‘That’s a thing?! Yes! Yes! Yes!’ I started hunting for the best theatre camp for him, and kept hearing that Clear Space was a professional and safe environment that built character and confidence regardless of skill level.”

Dawn Harner, whose daughter has been a Clear Space camper for several years, said, “I enrolled my daughter due to her passion for musical theatre and Clear Space’s reputation as a superior theatre for instruction and performance. The camps are so well organized and provide an incredible package of experiences, all rolled into one week. My daughter has participated in five week-long summer camp intensives, and can’t wait to return this summer!”

Each Musical Theatre Summer Camp session is designed for specific grade levels. “Aladdin,” for campers in fourth to sixth grades, is set for Monday to Friday, July 16 to 20. “Guys & Dolls,” for campers in seventh to 12th grades, is slated for Monday, July 30 to Friday, Aug. 3.

Another camp will be held Monday to Friday, Aug. 6 to 10, and will culminate in a production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” Participation requires an audition and the recommendation of a current Clear Space arts instructor.

The Acting Summer Camp, which focuses on acting technique and dramatic study, will be held Monday to Friday, July 23 to 27, and includes campers of all grade levels. Campers will produce “Red vs. the Wolf,” wherein the kindly, sensitive Wolf finally gets his chance to set the record straight on that Little Red Riding Hood tale.

All summer camp intensives are held from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day at Clear Space Theatre’s air-conditioned, downtown Rehoboth Beach location. Children will remain on Clear Space Theatre property throughout the camp day.

Tuition for each intensive is $375, and covers high-quality, professional instruction; tailored vocal arrangements and age-appropriate curricula; camp T-shirt and materials; and one student ticket to that week’s Wednesday Clear Space Summer Repertory performance plus a 20 percent discount for additional family member tickets to that performance.
