Clifford W. ‘Cliff’ Neal, hard-working attitude

October 24, 2019

Clifford W. “Cliff” Neal 66, of Lincoln passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at Bayhealth Sussex Campus after suffering a heart attack at his home.

Cliff was born in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Russell A. and Frances M. Pfeiffer. He grew up hard in Baltimore City, and through hard times, always overcame adversity. He graduated from Franklin High School, in Reisterstown, Md., class of 1971.

Cliff had a desire to work hard, and after attending college he went on to his lifelong career in construction. Living in Baltimore, he was the owner and operator of Cliff’s Roofing and Siding Inc., which he operated successfully from 1977-2004. He was well known in the area for his expertise and excellent reputation for a job well done.

In 2004, he and his wife Diann moved to Lincoln, where he continued his business, locally known as Cliff’s Edge Home Improvements LLC.  His hard-working attitude and abilities as a self-made craftsman were evident even until his sudden passing.  Cliff could build, repair or restore anything. His handiwork can be seen in his home, throughout Sussex County and the resort area.

Cliff’s friends described him as a legend. He was a forever friend, had a huge heart and a giving spirit.  He continued giving, even after death, as he was an organ donor with Gift of Life. Cliff loved travelling and spending time in the Florida Keys.  He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He loved to be outdoors, especially fishing, whether deep-sea fishing or surf fishing with his numerous friends as a member of Delaware Mobile Surf Fishermen Club. Cliff also attended Lewes Church of Christ The Crossing and dearly enjoyed fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ.

Cliff is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Diann (Patton) Neal; a daughter, Lorreta Abell; a grandson who adored his “Popeye,” Roman Abell; four siblings, Russ Neal and wife Kathy, Nancy Mauler and husband Jeff, Jim Neal and wife Deb, and Robert Neal; nieces and nephews, Dan Neal and wife Missy, Jon Neal, David Mauler and wife Rachel, and Eric Mauler; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Deb Cegelski and husband Ray; and their daughter, Angel Lecompte and husband Brandon; Dani Bly and husband Wendell, their daughter Amberly and their extended family; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Cliff will be remembered by many, especially his purveyors and contractors, his friends in the fishing community, including Kathy and Bill Baker of Bill’s Sports Shop and numerous customers, all of whom Cliff felt were vital to the success of his business and his lasting friendships.

The family is planning a memorial service for a later date.

Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Milton.

Cliff was always preparing for the future of his grandson and furthering Roman’s education. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Cliff’s memory be made to Roman’s trust that was established with County Bank.  Memorial donations can be made to: County Bank, 140 Broadkill Road, Milton, DE 19968, (memo) Diann L. Neal, Custodian for Roman Neal.
