Clothing Our Kids service to area schoolchildren continues

May 20, 2020

While the Clothing Our Kids volunteer center is closed for quarantine, a protocol has been finalized for any requests received during the closure.

Donations of $500 worth of children’s socks and underwear have been given to What Is Your Voice women’s shelter. Other special requests will be handled as they arise.

The Clothing Our Kids school liaison is checking in with school nurses, social workers and interventionists.

While Clothing Our Kids’ mission is primarily to provide school clothing, its bylaws allow other items to be distributed as needed from time to time. Knowing that Sussex County children are mostly home during this time, the board decided the best way to help them would be to assist with food by providing a donation to Food Bank of Delaware.

While the nonprofit’s major fundraisers, an auction party and a golf outing, have been canceled for the year, it does maintain a financial reserve to continue providing assistance.

When school reopens, the demand from families is expected to be substantial, and Clothing Our Kids volunteers want to be ready.

The Clothing Our Kids board of directors thanks the community for its support of Sussex County children over the years. Going forward, Clothing Our Kids will continue to be here, offering an opportunity for every child to achieve excellence.
